Armadale takes out leadership award

The City of Armadale was awarded the prestigious 2001 Alcoa Leadership Award as part of the WA Local Government Association (WALGA) Best Practice in Local Government Awards.

The Alcoa Leadership Award is the pinnacle best practice award process. It recognises the Local Government in Western Australia that demonstrates true leadership, extensive community consultation, excellent organisational management and documented benchmarking.

WALGA President, Councillor Ian Mickel said, “These awards have given us the opportunity to recognise the innovative and quality work that has become second nature to many Local Governments in WA. It’s an occasion to celebrate the achievements of those Local Governments in Western Australia that are providing excellent services to WA communities.

“The City of Armadale has clearly demonstrated its commitment to best practice principles through its wide range of community programs and customer service initiatives. One of these initiatives is the Surfin’ Seniors program that facilitates the introduction of seniors to the Internet.”

The 2001 Best Practice in Local Government Whole of Organisation Awards were presented to the City of Armadale, City of Fremantle and the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

This Award is presented to the Local Governments that meet all the best practice criteria for all the award categories, demonstrate a higher level of commitment to the intent of the Local Government Act, and demonstrate continual improvement strategies.
