Commencing operations in February 2001, the Area Marketing and Development Office (AMDO) aims to increase visitors to the region and encourage more people to move to Flinders Island. It is helping local businesses improve what they do and their market penetration.
Identifying new opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs, and helping locals turn their good ideas into a business reality is an important role. Access to training and skill development is provided, as well as encouraging businesses to move to the region.
AMDO works closely with the Furneaux Enterprise Centre, Flinders Island Tourism Association, Gateway and Tourism Tasmania.
“Council is looking for ways to reverse the decline in local population and opportunities for the young people to find employment locally,” said David Sell, Area Marketing and Development Officer. “It continues to give whole hearted support of our work, and the State Government has pledged full support to AMDO. Most importantly, the locals have embraced the office. They really appreciate the chance to discuss their ideas confidentially, with someone who can help them turn that idea into a reality.”
