ATSIC’s Wangka Wilurrara Regional Council (WWRC) and South Australia’s District Council of Ceduna held a workshop on 19 April, at the Far West Aboriginal Sports Complex to help define the future of their working relationship.
The workshop included members of the two Councils, as well as representatives from other relevant community groups and agencies, including the Local Government Association, the Office of Local Government, other local Councils, and homelands and community representatives. In all about 60 people attended. The meeting is believed to be the first of its kind in South Australia.
“Basically we’re developing an agreement between the Wangka Wilurrara Regional Council and the District Council of Ceduna,” said ATSIC Regional Manager Allan Whitehouse. “We’re formalising much of what we’re already doing, and determining which ways in the future to best serve our community groups.”
The eventual outcome of the workshop will be a formal agreement between the WWRC and Ceduna District Council, also believed to be a first. Once formed, the agreement will be offered for public comment.
