As part of the celebrations of the Year of the Outback, this year’s National General Assembly of Local Government will take place in Alice Springs. The Assembly venue is the recently completed Alice Springs Convention Centre. Officially opened on 25 May, the Convention Centre creatively combines high technology with innovative architecture.
At a cost of $14 million, this is the first purpose built facility in the Northern Territory dedicated to conventions, conferences, exhibitions and the like. The Convention Centre soaks in the natural settings of Alice Springs, with an abundance of natural light and spectacular views of the MacDonnell Ranges, clearly affirming that you are unmistakably in the heart of Australia.
The main function room, the MacDonnell Room, features a nine metre high ceiling and 1,260 square metres of floor space. This can be divided in half or separate thirds. With a capacity to seat 1,300, this will be the venue for plenary sessions and the Conference Dinner. The Ellery Room with 576 square metres of floor space will be divided into smaller breakout rooms for the concurrent sessions.
With excellent audio and visual facilities, such as basic wireless lapel microphone through to a concert PA system, staging, lighting, video/computer projectors, the look and sound is state of the art.
