LGProfessionals farewell Neil Armstrong

After four and a half years as Chief Executive Officer, Neil Armstrong will resign at the end of February from Local Government Professionals Inc. Victoria (LGPro). Spanning a period of 25 years, Neil Armstrong has been involved in both the public and private sectors. He has served as both a Councillor and Officer in Local Government.

Appointed Executive Officer/Secretary of the Westernport Regional Council in the 1970s, Neil has held various senior management roles including five years as Manager Community Planning Division of the former City of Berwick, and five years as General Manager of the Deniliquin Shire. From 1985 to 1988 Neil was a Councillor at the former Mornington Shire Council.

In 1998, he became CEO of LGPro, a Victorian based association comprising Local Government managers, engineers and community service professionals. Managed by a small, multi-skilled and committed staff, LGPro provides professional development, interactive learning, and business focused events to Local Government professionals. It is from these commercially based operations that LGPro draws the bulk of its operating income.

“The success of LGPro is evident by the number of interstate delegates who attend the conferences, and the same is to be expected with the upcoming ‘Leadership Through Innovation’ Conference to be held on 20 and 21 February,“ said Neil Armstrong.

In terms of community involvement, Neil has been appointed to numerous boards including hospital, health services, local planning bodies and school councils. With all his experience, Neil has decided to move on to form his own consulting business – Neil Armstrong Strategic. His new business will enable him to maintain his work with Local Government by providing services on a variety of issues, such as strategic communication and event management, analysis and investigations, and management assignments including client relationships and leadership development.

Local Government FOCUS wishes Neil Armstrong all the best for the future and his new business.
