Kempsey Shire Council has formally congratulated a local resident who is the 2003 National Aboriginal and Islander Day Organising Committee (NAIDOC) Youth of the Year. Stacey Kelly-Greenup, 18, is also Council’s Young Citizen of the Year for 2003.
Mayor Janet Hayes recognised her contribution to issues affecting young Aboriginal people across the State and on the NSW Central Coast.
“Stacey wants a better community, not only for her people and peers, but for the community as a whole,” Mayor Hayes said. “She has had to overcome many hurdles in order to contribute to her people and the community.”
Stacey Kelly-Greenup is a nationally accredited volunteer worker in family mediation and conflict resolution. She is also a member of the NSW Reconciliation Youth Group and the Attorney General’s Department/ATSIC Council Family and Youth Committee.She hopes to study law and is currently working toward this goal.
