Regional Councils join forces

Armidale Dumaresq Council is a member of the new group.

Several councils in regional New South Wales have established a new collaborative group, the New England Group of Councils (NEGOC).

The group is comprised of the Mayors and General Managers of the Councils of Armidale Dumaresq, Glen Innes Severn, Guyra, Inverell, Uralla, and the associated Councils (non voting) of Walcha and the New England Weeds Authority.

Armidale Dumaresq Mayor Cr Herman Beyersdorf said NEGOC is an important step in achieving regional representation, collaboration, cost efficiencies and shared services and information.

“The establishment of NEGOC and this Council’s endorsement of the draft constitution are an interim measure until legislation as to the formation of Joint Regional Organisations becomes available.

“This is a step in the right direction for our region and marks what I hope can be a very fruitful and beneficial relationship with our neighbouring Councils.

“We are on the cusp of significant change in Local Government and we must put our best foot forward to achieving solid outcomes for the region.”
