Almost 30 businesses have signed up to become bike-friendly in a bid to convert occasional cyclists into regular riders in a partnership between Barossa Council and the State Government.
From February 20, participating businesses in Lyndoch, Tanunda, Nuriootpa and Angaston will offer discounts or special offers to cyclists as well as incentives such as free water, bike parking and customer toilets.
The initiative will be launched at the Barossa Cycle Expo on February 20 at the Barossa Cycle Hub in Tanunda and will be promoted extensively on social media by participating businesses.
Barossa Council’s Director Corporate and Community Services, Joanne Thomas, said the uptake from businesses was fantastic.
“It’s great to see so many businesses on board wanting attract more business by catering for cyclists.
“We hope this initiative encourages people to make a conscious change and choose a bike over a car where practical for work, shopping or school drop-off.”
Cyclists are encouraged to look for the cycle friendly sticker at participating businesses and simply show their helmet to redeem their saving.
The Bike Friendly Barossa initiative is a partnership between Council and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure.
