Dubbo City Council in regional New South Wales will welcome a new multi-million dollar facility for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Mayor of Dubbo Mathew Dickerson said Dubbo is set to benefit enormously from the announcement of a new $18 million facility for the Royal Flying Doctor Service base in Dubbo.
“This investment confirms Dubbo as a strategic hub for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a service that Dubbo and Western NSW relies on and are passionate about.
“As home of Australia’s first aeromedical training facility Dubbo will be a centre that attracts a wide range of pilots, doctors and nurses to
Dubbo for training.
“As the flight simulator will also be open to the public this development will also provide [a] new and unique experience for locals and visitors alike.
“This will significantly boost the interest of Dubbo as a destination to visit the home of the Royal Flying Doctors.”
The Royal Flying Doctor Service Base operates from the Dubbo City Regional Airport and Dubbo City Council and Dubbo City Regional Airport staff have been working closely over a period of time to ensure this project is successful.
Mayor Dickerson said upgrades and improvements to the Dubbo City Regional Airport have been a key strategy of Council’s for many years and this latest announcement is another great step forward for such an important piece of regional infrastructure.
“No other regional airport supports direct flights to five ports including the eastern capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as well as Broken Hill and Cobar. Approximately 11.5 million people are within about an hour’s flight from Dubbo,” said Mayor Dickerson.
“This development also demonstrates how a quality airport can attract new investment and complementary development beyond passenger services that have an economic benefit for Dubbo and the wider region.”
