Have your say… Letters to the editor

This is your chance to speak up about current issues affecting your council. Please forward your letters to editorial@lgfocus.com.au

Dear LG Focus,
Time and again we hear from our community that commuter parking around our train stations is a big issue.

While Council has the ability to manage on-street parking in our municipality, the responsibility for commuter parking rests solely with the State government, who have been largely deaf to community concerns about the issue.

Through our new Public Transport Advocacy Statement, Council will be taking a more decisive approach to advocating for better public transport across the board in Bayside including more
commuter parking.

Issues around commuter parking in Bayside are being exacerbated by current and proposed work on the Frankston line which is seeing more people using the Sandringham line and streets surrounding railway stations are becoming clogged with commuter vehicles.

It’s time the State government stepped up and took real action to address the need for increased commuter parking in Bayside.

Many commuters in Bayside are all too aware of the sense of frustration at watching the train pull out of the station just as the bus arrives.

And, as the cold winter months set in, there is often a long and chilly wait at the bus stop at the end of the day as residents wait for a connecting bus from the station to home.

Through the revised Public Transport Advocacy Statement, Council will be calling on the Victorian government to improve the frequency and connectivity of bus services in Bayside.

Through the Bayside Public Transport Advocacy Statement, Council aspires to work with the community to push the State government for a better public transport deal for Bayside.

Sincerely,
Mayor James Long BM JP,
Bayside City Council
