Mental health awareness for men

Banana Shire in Queensland welcomed one of Australia’s leading mental health advocates during Men’s Health Week earlier this year.

Banana Shire Council welcomed Craig Hamilton back to the Shire during Men’s Heath Week in June, following a very successful visit in February for his ‘Strength of Mind – Overcoming Adversity and Thriving Again’ tour.

Mr Hamilton is an ABC radio Sports Broadcaster and star of the documentary Broken Open.

He has used his position in the public eye to challenge perceptions, calling for increased support for sufferers and providing health and wellbeing advice across Australia.

Craig has travelled extensively, sharing his story and tips for better living in rural and remote communities, as well as for some of Australia’s largest organisations.

He has become one of Australia’s leading mental health advocates and public speakers, sharing his journey from the depths of hell to regaining his health and happiness.

These two free presentations, which coincided with Men’s Health Week, were administered within the Shire by Community Development Advisor, Robyn Miles.

These events were made possible through the Community Drought Support Package, which was funded under the Community Investment Specification v.3.

The Community Drought Support Package was designed to provide support initiatives to strengthen the resilience of drought-affected Queenslanders by revitalising existing community support mechanisms.
