Open swim showcases shire

Lake Leschenaultia in the Shire of Mundaring is gearing up to welcome the wider Western Australian swimming community.

The Shire of Mundaring’s fresh water lake, in Chidlow, will play host to an Open Water Swimming event on Sunday 12 November, organised by the Maida Vale Masters Swimming Club.

The club has held its own annual event at Lake Leschenaultia for more than three decades and it has consistently proven to be a big hit.

Shire President David Lavell said this year’s open water swim would be available to all registered swimmers, thanks to the collaborative effort of the Shire, Masters Swimming and SwimmingWA.

“I am thrilled we can offer our spectacular Lake Leschenaultia as a venue for this exciting event,” President Lavell said.
“We’ve loved that the Maida Vale Masters swimmers have been able to enjoy the location for many years.

“We’re now looking forward to showcasing one of the Shire’s most popular destinations to other swimming communities throughout the state.”

The popular Open Water Series is held at beaches and lakes at various metropolitan and regional areas in WA.

Generally speaking, each swim attracts about 500 swimmers although numbers at the Lake Leschenaultia event will be capped at slightly less.
