Film wins at Cannes

A short film shot almost entirely in Victoria’s City of Greater Dandenong won a prestigious Cannes Film Festival Award last month.

All these Creatures was selected as the winner of the short film category, after it was chosen as one of eight finalists from almost 4000 submissions from across the globe.

Council collaborated with the filmmaker Charles Williams and is proud to have been involved with this project.

Council Chief Executive Office, John Bennie, said the powerful film tackled complex subjects, including mental health issues and family relationships.

“This film tells a universal story that is relatable on so many levels.
“We are extremely proud to see our local stories being told to an international audience. This film has exceeded our expectations and is proof that by working together we can really make a difference.”

All these Creatures was filmed on location in Greater Dandenong and students from local schools were used as extras.

A mentoring/interning program was also initiated, which allowed three young people from the local community to work on the film and gain valuable industry experience.
