Ollies, grinds and grabbing air are about to join the Cairns Regional Council, Queensland, Active Living program through a new skateboard class covering basic skills and tricks.
Run by qualified SAF Skateboard coaches the new class will join favourites such as Zumba, Pilates, bouldering, beach volleyball and Seniors Steady Steps.
Cairns Regional Council Mayor Bob Manning said the popular exercise program attracts 2,000 participants each week.
“We have been providing this program for 15 years, and it only continues to grow in popularity.
“The new skateboard classes will hopefully encourage more young people to put down their devices and get out into the open air to exercise and socialise.
“Recognised internationally as one of the ‘seven wonders of the skate park world’ the Esplanade Skate Plaza is the ideal location for beginners or those who want to improve their skills or land new tricks.”
While the new skateboarding class aims to get more young people working up a sweat, there is no age limit.
The Active Living program is designed to be a fun, casual and non-threatening environment that encourages residents to increase their physical activity and improve their health and wellbeing.
