FunSearch helps highlight free council assets and events*

Australian technology start-up and Destination Marketing company, FunSearch.com.au is a new ‘location aware’ photo and video search engine that allows councils across the country to promote all manner of council assets and green spaces to both locals and travellers alike.

It is a single channel for all of Australia’s councils, visitor economy, leisure and recreation businesses, organisations and natural attractions.

Councils can create a free profile on FunSearch then upload photos and videos of local area natural attractions, parks, playgrounds, green spaces, libraries, historical landmarks, events and much more.
Each photo or video can be titled and a description added.

Then it is searchable across the FunSearch system when people are searching any council location name or when in the area.

Chief Executive Officer of FunSearch, Chris Gillard, said that while council websites often include details of these types of asset, many people don’t know how to find them or won’t know to look for them on council websites.

“Being a ‘location aware’ search engine, locals only have to visit FunSearch and allow it to know their location to automatically see what is around them – without even needing to search.

“Many people across Australia are surprised to find things on FunSearch in their very own backyards that they never even knew about.

“Things like parklands, library activities and school holiday programs run by council can all be found on FunSearch through one council profile.

“Those traveling to your area or through it, also benefit.”
Chris said the FunSearch system was developed over two years and he and his team spent a lot of time researching, one-on-one with councillors, Visitor Information Centre employees, local area visitor economy business owners and others, to create a platform that was co-designed with its market.
