Towering symbol of a community’s strength

Once a utilitarian water tower, Chester Park water tower, Logan City, Queensland, is now a vibrant reminder of the courageous individuals that make their community strong.

Design artist Kyra Mancktelow’s ‘Our Warriors’ mural, depicts everyday heroes from her life, the ‘warriors’ who fight for justice and a better world.

The design is a fusion of Kyra’s Quandamooka heritage with the official colours of Logan City (royal blue and gold).

Council’s Director of Community Services, Katie Barton-Harvey, said the water tower was now a colourful landmark the city can be proud of.

“At 31m the Chester Park water tower has always stood out and now it will for its beauty within the natural bush setting.

“Kyra’s design has transformed the tower into something that brightens the Logan landscape.

“It also weaves in an interesting indigenous narrative that we can all draw inspiration from.”

Kyra’s design was chosen from a large field of entries last year.

“It’s amazing seeing the concept of Our Warriors come to life in this way,” Kyra said.

“It’s been a real privilege to share such a personal and important story with such a wide audience.”
