Regional tourism under the spotlight

City of Karratha welcomed more than 250 delegates from across Western Australia (WA) to town in September, hosting the 2019 WA Regional Tourism Conference.

Held at the state-of-the-art Red Earth Arts Precinct, the conference provided industry updates, training and workshops alongside networking opportunities with some of Western Australia’s most respected tourism experts.

Alongside the daily conference prospectus, delegates were invited to experience Karratha and surrounds through guided tours, local cuisine and an incredible open air dinner on the foreshore of Hearson Cove, underneath a stunning staircase to the moon display.

This was an excellent opportunity to showcase the City of Karratha’s burgeoning tourism industry to the wider state and build the profile of the region in the eyes of local industry.

The conference aligned with Council’s ‘Karratha is calling’ place branding campaign that celebrates the City of Karratha as an incredible place not only to visit, but live and invest as well.

The 2019 WA Regional Tourism Conference also saw the presentation of the Tourism Council of Western Australia’s annual tourism awards with local Ngarluma man and tourism operator, Clinton Walker of Ngurrangga Tours, announced winner of the Perth Airport WA Tourism Award for Individual Excellence in Aboriginal Tourism.

In 2019 the City of Karratha will host the fourth annual international Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Meeting of Mining Regions and Cities.
