Pink stumps day

Shire of Upper Gascoyne, Western Australia, has outshone the third test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on the local radar, holding its own Pink Stumps Day to raise $2034.80 for the McGrath Foundation.

Gascoyne Junction Remote Community School hosted the annual event with a great turnout of town and station folk who turned up to try out their cricketing skills.

Two teams ‘Townies’ captained by Dianne Kempton (2015 and 2017 winner) and ’Think Local Vote Nationals’ captained by Vince Catania (last year’s winner) rallied their troops together before the game.

Although runs were hard to come by, some great catches were taken and both teams played with outstanding skills. Think Local Vote National team scored 74 runs but were no match for team Townies who mustered 113 runs.

After the match, everyone pitched in to clean up then had a kick of the footy before heading over to the Junction Pub and Tourist Park for the trophy presentation.

Prizes for the raffles were kindly donated by a long list of generous sponsors, with the highlight being the auction of a baby webberQ which fetched a nice price of $410.

The pub put on a great buffet and provided the kids with free popcorn and pizza whilst they watched Toy Story 4 and Pets 2 on the big screen.

A great night was had by all with a special mention for the pub and school working together to run a successful event.

Thanks go to all the volunteers on the day for their help without whom community events like this would not happen.
