Public art map launched

Alice Springs Town Council, Northern Territory, has launched an interactive online public art map which is now live.

Chief Executive Officer, Robert Jennings, said, “The map was a key objective of the Alice Springs Town Council’s Arts and Cultural Plan and has been developed in collaboration with artists, the community and proudly produced by local business.”

Mayor, Damien Ryan, said, “This is a great way to showcase both Alice Springs and its art.

“Having the ability to view online, visit, learn and engage with more than 60 public artworks is a benefit to both locals and visitors to Alice Springs.”

The map is designed to enhance visitation to the Alice Springs central business district with public art trails on specific themes or genres for people to explore.

Some of the artworks also include audio from artists on their works to provide extra background and increased accessibility.

The map was jointly funded by Council and the Northern Territory Government through the Visitor Experience Enhancement Program.

In celebration of the launch, Central Arrernte and Mudburra elder and artist Patricia (Pat) Ansell Dodds led a lucky few locals and visitors on a free walk to explore the public art trail.
