Village Heart shines with national recognition

The City of Prospect has announced that the Prospect Road Village Heart has just taken out its seventh prestigious award.

Following recent recognition by the Australian Civic Trust and the SA Chapter of the Planning Institute of Australia, the Prospect Road Village Heart upgrade project was nominated for an award at the 2015 National Planning Institute of Australia Congress in Melbourne.

The contest was tight, with just three other projects from across Australia making the shortlist for the From Plan to Place national award category.

The Village Heart shone through once again, with a representative from Council and its project design team Jensen Planning & Design on hand to receive the award, the highest project award bestowed by the Planning Institute of Australia for 2015.

The Village Heart project has created a focal point for businesses, residents and visitors alike, by creating an attractive space where traffic is slowed and pedestrian and outdoor dining amenity is enhanced.

It has become a template for main street precinct development throughout South Australia and is much visited by designers and Councils alike.

City of Prospect Mayor David O’Loughlin said the award is another great win for City of Prospect.

“We have invested significantly into the Village Heart to attract people, businesses and development to Prospect Road.

“To have won a national award is a fabulous tribute to the hard work of many and to our innovative and inclusive approach to improving our great city.

“Prospect’s Village Heart has the lowest vacancy rates for a main street precinct in SA.

“We are already seeing a huge uplift in investor interest, with the first four–level project due to commence later this year.”
