Marrickville Council became just the second council in NSW to use a new sustainable asphalt technology when Davis Street in Dulwich Hill had a makeover in early December using the new low-CO2 TonerPave.
TonerPave is a high quality asphalt additive based on the polymers in recycled toner powder.
The powder is a resource that has been recovered through the cartridge-recycling program that Marrickville Council contributes to.
Council’s cartridge recycling partners, Close The Loop, will record the amount of Council’s used toner in the asphalt.
Coordinator Civil Works David Mathieson said the Davis Street trial was highly successful and that TonerPave will be used on more Council roads projects.
“This will help us meet our environmental targets in both our Community Strategic Plan and our Climate Change Plan.
“TonerPave reduces our carbon footprint, decreases our reliance on natural resources, and prevents high grade plastics from entering landfills, all at the same time. And it’s cheaper, too.”
