Encouraging women in local government

Strathfield Council will host a seminar for women interested in local government on Wednesday 19 August at Strathfield Town Hall.

The seminar will be an opportunity for women in the local community to better understand the role of councillors and how to become a councillor.

Strathfield councillors Helen McLucas and Stephanie Kokkolis will be speaking at the seminar, and will discuss the challenges and rewards of the role from the perspective of a female councillor.

Mayor of Strathfield, Councillor Gulian Vaccari said the session is open to all.

“The information session would be a great starting point for anyone who may be wondering about the role of a councillor and particularly for women who may have concerns about how to manage a busy lifestyle.”

Cr McLucas and Cr Kokkolis noted the importance of people coming along if they would like to find out more.

“This seminar is a fantastic opportunity for women who are interested in local government to find out how they can get involved,” Cr McLucas said.

“I hope everyone who attends is inspired to hear that it is an important and rewarding role.”

Ms Jodi McKay, Member for Strathfield, will also be speaking at the seminar.
