Addressing sustainable infrastructure challenges

Local Government nationally must continue to improve its asset management practices to ensure its infrastructure is sustainable and to meet the constraints posed by financial and climate change challenges.

This is also central to councils’ ongoing efforts to demonstrate value for money, and achieve recognition and improved funding from other levels of government.

The sixth National Local Government Asset Management and Public Works Engineering Conference will explore these issues with industry experts from Australia and overseas.

Concurrent program streams cater for diverse responsibilities of Councillors, CEOs and those with infrastructure, engineering, IT, finance, risk management, environment and transport roles.

Program topics include high performance asset management, sustainable development, climate change impacts, whole of organisation asset management, water sustainability and transport planning.

Among the keynote speakers are Peter Seamer, CEO, Growth Areas Authority; Wayne Westcott, CEO, ICLEI Local Government for Sustainability; Ian Sowerby, President, Civil Contractors Federation; Rajiv Sondhi, Senior Development Specialist, World Bank; Dr Carol Boyle, International Centre for Sustainability Engineering and Research, University of NZ; and Barry Broe, Infrastructure Director, Brisbane City Council.

The conference is on 28–29 April at Latrobe Theatre, Melbourne Convention Centre, with the event hosted by the Municipal Association of Victoria and Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA).

Council personnel and IPWEA members receive a $50 discount off the registration cost ($847 including GST for council personnel and IPWEA members; and $891 including GST for all other attendees).

Early bird registrations are open until 27 February, with a $50 discount offered.
