A number of librarians hit the New South Wales highways in November, for the 2012 ‘Riding the Riverina — Biblio Turismo’ three-day motorcycle tour.
Now in its seventh year, the ‘Biblio Turismo’ crew traveled through the NSW Riverina region, visiting libraries in Lithgow, Cowra, Grenfell, West Wyalong, Griffith, Temora, Yass and Canberra.
Tour organiser and Gosford City Council’s Library Services Manager, Mr Alan Flores, says that the three-day event has continued to grow in popularity since its inception seven years ago.
“‘Biblio Turismo’ is a great opportunity to raise awareness and promote the value of public libraries to so many diverse and unique communities.
“We have received an overwhelming response from the 70 public libraries we have visited over the last seven years.
“From the smallest library in a quiet country town to the larger libraries in the bigger cities, there is a sense of camaraderie and friendship amongst the libraries throughout the State.
“It is wonderful to share stories and exchange information with other like-minded people so that we can bring new ideas back and implement them in our local libraries,” said Mr Flores.
Tour participants pay for their own expenses and volunteer their time to promote the work that librarians do.
Founded and organised by Gosford Library staff, previous ‘Biblio Turismo’ tours have been so successful that they have received media attention from across Australia and abroad.
