Over the horizon: IPAA Qld’s 2008 Annual Public Sector Conference

In October, more than 200 people looked over the horizon at ways of creating a more modern, efficient and effective public service during the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) Queensland’s Annual Public Sector Conference at the Brisbane Hilton.

Attendees came from a wide range of State and Federal Government departments, as well as Local Government and
non government organisations.

The range of topics covered all levels of government and participants were given the opportunity to learn, share and discuss issues around the future of public administration. These included government reform, infrastructure challenges, social inclusion and public sector attraction and retention.

A highlight of the conference was participants from the Prime Minister’s 2020 Summit taking part in a lively panel session on big ideas and big reforms.

Other speakers included Chair of the Public Service Commission and CEO of Carnival Australia, Ann Sherry; Director General of the Queensland Department of Premier and Cabinet, Ken Smith; and Secretary of the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, Helen Silver.
