Marrickville Council’s Children and Family Services team has received the best possible review assessment under the current National Accreditation System.
The inner western Sydney Council currently operates a family daycare service with access to special needs and bilingual workers, six long daycare services, several preschools, before and after school care centres and three vacation care centres. Council also operates the Magic Yellow Bus mobile playgroup service.
Funded by the Department of Community Services, the bus is a free activity and community information service for children aged six weeks to 12 years and their parents or carers.
Research studies highlight the critical importance of high quality childcare and show that the care children receive in their first years of life has a lifelong impact.
Marrickville Mayor Councillor Sam Iskandar said the knowledge and skills of Council staff, combined with a strong commitment to social justice, has a profound effect in the Marrickville community.
“These workers are helping children to develop a strong sense of identity,” he said.
“It is highly gratifying to know that Marrickville Council is delivering such a high standard of care for children in the critical areas of education, health and safety.
“I know that Marrickville families will value knowing that we are providing the best services for their child.”
The National Childcare Accreditation Council (NCAC) has approached Council, seeking input into examples of best practice. It has asked the Family Day Care team to submit an article to the national NCAC newsletter.
