Moss Vale Indoor Aquatic centre takes shape

The gates may have closed on Wingecarribee Shire’s public swimming pools, but weather permitting, the 2012/13 season will be the last year that swimming facilities close come early autumn.

Scheduled to be open for business in the third quarter of the year, the multi-million dollar Moss Vale Indoor Aquatic Centre will offer year round swimming for our Shire’s residents.

Featuring a heated eight–lane 25 metre swimming pool, an additional warm water exercise pool, a water play area, a gymnasium, a club and a party room, kiosk and wet and dry amenities; the $8.4 million indoor facility will offer alternate exercise, leisure and rehabilitation options for Shire citizens regardless of the weather.

At the time of writing, major construction components including structural framework, roofing, concreting and excavation have already been completed.

“The building is really taking shape and we’re making good progress towards the anticipated August completion date,” said Bob Lewis, Council’s Project Manager in charge of the facility.  “The next stages of construction will include the development of the pool shells and their associated plant.”

Wingecarribee Shire Mayor, Councillor Juliet Arkwright said that on completion, the aquatic centre – located directly behind Council’s Moss Vale Civic Centre – would become a landmark feature of the Shire.

“Once completed, our citizens will no longer need to travel outside of our Shire to access a first–class year–round swimming facility,” she said.  “Regardless of age, this facility will provide countless benefits for all of our residents.”

“From vital learn to swim classes, to exercise therapy, leisure, or general health and well-being; I have no doubt that the Moss Vale Indoor Aquatic Centre will benefit Southern Highlanders and their visitors for years to come.”
