Community Spirit Soars

The City of Stirling hosts a number of events over the spring and summer months, with the primary goal being to encourage community celebration and foster social interaction.

Some of the events planned for this year include:

Artopia: A biennial festival celebrating the talents of local artists across the state over three weeks. Activities supported by the City of Stirling include:

  • A free guided tour of the City’s extensive Public Art Collection.
  • The “Paint Well” series of Wheelie-Bins converted into rainwater catchments and painted.
  • Open Studio at Settler’s Cottage.

Queen Will Rock You: The sensational tribute band; Bohemian Rhapsody will entertain the crowd with all the classic Queen tracks. Children’s activities will be available, making this a relaxed family-friendly environment.

Kid’s Theatre in the Park: This annual Children’s event has been held for the last five years and is one of the more popular events on our calendar. The day will include the amazing Lunar Circus and other popular local children’s entertainers, rides, art activities and amusements.

Artaintment: This year the City’s annual art event will take the shape of a spectacular concert and exhibition. Art groups and artists throughout the City will be invited to attend this free community event with the intent of raising the profile of arts in the City of Stirling.

Youth Concert: As the main event for young people in 2008, the Youth Concert aims to provide a free and safe event. It will feature a popular band, extreme sport demonstrations, urban art workshops and amusements.

Leisurepark Aquatica: A family open day has been proposed to celebrate the opening of this newly constructed Leisurepark in Balga.

WAAPA in the Park: The City of Stirling and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) propose to host a third joint event for City residents. WAAPA in the Park was first held last year after the success of 2005’s “Shakespeare in the Park”.

Festival of Surf: Last year the Festival of Surf was a highlight on the City’s event calendar. This year the event will be condensed into one day, with children’s activities, amusements and performers taking place during the day in the lead up to the Beach Concert in the evening.
