Strathfield Municipal Council is the first Sydney Council to offer applicants a fully online development application lodgement and tracking service. Strathfield is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s inner west. It covers approximately 14 square kilometres and has a population of around 32,000 people. The electronic development application tool, known as eDA, enables applicants to track progress of their development application, from lodgement through to determination, in their own time via Council’s website.
Council currently receives an average of 30 development applications per month. While traditional lodgements can still be made, Council expects between 60 and 80 per cent of development applications will be submitted online using the eDA system.
Developed by Internetrix, Strathfield Council is the first Sydney metropolitan Council and only the second Council in Australia to use the fully online eDA service.
Strathfield Mayor, Councillor Bill Carney, said that while systems used by other Councils allow applicants to track progress of their application online, Strathfield’s goes a step further.
“Our eDA service has progressed to the point where residents, builders and architects can actually lodge, as well as track development applications online, greatly increasing convenience and transparency,” he said. “The service gives applicants the flexibility to lodge a development application, plans and drawings, or to track their application at any time of the day or night. It is simple to use, giving customers real time information.”
Applicants unable to access the Internet can still track their development application over the counter at the Customer Service Centre or by telephone.
“The new eDA service should also result in a faster turnaround of applications, ultimately speeding up the development application process,” the Mayor said.
