Future and past meet in main street project

A transformative project is taking shape in the heart of Westbury, where heritage meets progress in the Meander Council area.

The streetscape refresh along Meander Valley Road is more than a facelift. It’s a commitment to revitalising the town’s main thoroughfare to support local business, tourism, and community life—while celebrating Westbury’s rich history.

Phase one, now nearing completion, focuses on the block containing the Westbury Recreation Ground. The works enhance high-use pedestrian areas and streetscape features, creating a safer, more attractive, and accessible environment for everyone.

New paving, improved footpaths, and landscaping will soon be joined by interpretive signage, seating and a shelter.

Together, these improvements make the area more welcoming for locals and visitors drawn to Westbury’s charm and character.

The project balances functionality and beauty—encouraging people to stop, explore, and engage with local businesses, community hubs, and nearby recreational spaces.

It aims to create a strong first impression that invites people to spend time in Westbury while preserving the town’s unique identity.

As a gateway to Tasmania’s natural and cultural treasures, Westbury is well positioned to benefit from increased visitation and renewed community pride.
