Future directions in case management*

A Decade of Difference: Journeys taken and the Road Ahead is the theme of the 10th National Conference of the Case Management Society of Australia (CMSA). It will be held in Melbourne on 15-16 March 2007. The theme of the 2007 CMSA conference has enabled the development of a program with a large variety of presentations, workshops and posters that explore the progress, challenges, changes to practice and research in case management that has occurred over the last ten years. It is timely to take stock of the efforts to develop case management and the need to drive development for the next decade and beyond.

The conference will commence with a keynote address by Professor Diane Huber, an academic with a background in nursing, from the University of Iowa, USA. Plenary speakers will cover areas such as cultural and linguistic diversity, Koori case management and elder abuse.

Topics will include education and development/training; scope of practice; changing patterns of client needs; policy development; partnerships; carers; organisational development; working with specific populations and ethical case management practice.

The conference is expected to stimulate discussion around the future directions for case management to ensure it is applicable to the settings where it is and will be practiced.

CMSA is a non profit organisation dedicated to the support and development of the practice of quality case management. It was founded in 1996 and in 2004 published the “National Standards of Practice for Case Management” document, and more recently has published the National Standards “Self assessment Framework “and “Self Assessment Matrix” documents.
