Top range of speakers for LGPro’s 2005 Conference

International and national experts will take the stage as keynote speakers at LGPro’s 2005 Annual Conference to be held at Melbourne Park Function Centre on 16–18 February 2005. Contributing to the conference theme, ‘Building Tomorrow’s Communities Today’, the opening address will be delivered by international strategic planning expert, Clem Sunter, who will discuss Games Foxes Play – Planning for Extraordinary Times.

Professor Edward Blakely, currently Chair of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Sydney and a leading scholar and practitioner in planning and economic development, will discuss the new role for the city.

Also speaking at the conference will be Tim Costello, Chief Executive of World Vision; Ita Buttrose, businesswoman and journalist; Jim Stynes, cofounder of Reach Youth and 2003 Victorian of the Year and Christine Harris, Managing Director of HIT Productions, a leader in theatre and education.

The conference will also feature a series of interactive forums covering topics such as communication, organisation culture, asset management, aged and disability support, libraries, and family youth and children’s services.

The gala conference dinner on Thursday 17 February will be a highlight of the conference, featuring the presentation of the 2005 LGPro Awards for Excellence. The gala conference dinner includes a special invitation to professionals who have left Local Government since 1994 to join us to celebrate the work of Local Government.
