Lifestyle and opportunity

Maroochy Shire is the largest and most central area of the Sunshine Coast. Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales are within easy travelling distances, while regional urban centres such as Caloundra, Noosa, Caboolture, Gympie and Maryborough are close neighbours. Maroochy is close enough to enjoy easy access to all that metropolitan Brisbane has to offer, yet far enough away to offer a pristine environment with modern services, amenities, and a relaxed lifestyle.

The Shire’s main population is centred on the coastal townships of Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland and Buderim. Nambour, the Shire’s administrative centre, is located 15km inland. The rural inland communities with mixed farming, scenic landscapes and rustic townships have powerful appeal of their own, offering tourist opportunities and lifestyle advantages.

Fresh air, tropical rainforests, some of Queensland’s finest surfing beaches, a picturesque rural hinterland and minimal traffic and crime, make Maroochy Shire a popular destination for tourists. This appeal also accounts for the Shire’s rapid population growth.

Transport infrastructure, comprising a modern jet airport with daily connecting flights to Brisbane and interstate destinations, a high speed electric train service and the national highway transecting the Shire, strengthens Maroochy’s position as a preferred location for residents, tourists and business.

Above all, opportunity, lifestyle, environment and diversity are what brings people to Maroochy.

Opportunity

Maroochy Shire is the largest contributor to the Sunshine Coast economy and home to the key regional centre, Maroochydore. As one of the fastest growing Shires in Australia, and the region’s economic powerhouse, Maroochy is opening the doors of opportunity to investors, residents and visitors in fields as diverse as technology, education, manufacturing, retail, tourism, fishing, development and agriculture.

Lifestyle

Whether it is an afternoon in the surf, a stroll to a hinterland waterfall, a spot of fishing, a barbecue with friends at one of our many parks, late night supper at a beachfront cafe, boutique shopping or just dancing the night away at a local club, Maroochy Shire has it all in the relaxed, casual, friendly lifestyle of which the Sunshine Coast is famous.

Environment

In the centre of a region which is home to hundreds of varieties of native flora and fauna species, Maroochy Shire is building a solid reputation as a forward thinking yet environmentally sound Shire. Maroochy is home to in excess of 25kms of unspoilt white sandy beaches, over 6,000 hectares of parkland and 3,000 hectares of national parks, and areas of rainforest, remnants of ancient palm groves and a scenic rural hinterland punctuated by ancient volcanic peaks.

Diversity

Maroochy Shire is home to a young and fast developing university, the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia’s award winning regional airport, the Sunshine Coast Airport, and the world famous Mooloolaba viewing deck, are just a few first class facilities. Priding itself on its multicultural strengths, Maroochy is home to people who were born in more than 120 different countries. This represents 17 per cent of the population and 4.8 per cent of these people come from non English speaking backgrounds. Maroochy’s richness, diversity and multiculturalism is a true reflection of the strength of its community.
