Cutting edge technology

The benefits of the global explosion in information technology is now available 24 hours a day to residents in Manningham. A new information system makes contact between residents and Government agencies easier, quicker, more efficient and readily available.

A State Government scheme, The Victoria 21 Strategy, aims to have electronic delivery of Government information services available throughout the community. It will soon be in place in a number of other areas in Victoria.

Along with residents of Moira Shire Council, Manningham citizens are the first in Victoria to be able to access Local Government and other government information in this way of the future.

Manningham City Council was chosen, along with Moira and other government agencies, including VicRoads, Yarra Valley Water, and the Victorian Electoral Commission, because it had shown a demonstrated commitment to innovative service delivery and, in particular, electronic service delivery.

The result, Info-Lynx was launched in December by Manningham Chairman of Commissioners, Adam Kempton, and Robert Clark, MLA, Parliamentary Secretary for Treasury and Multimedia. Manningham residents can now access Council information 24 hours a day via their home computer and, towards the end of 1997, at a number of ‘kiosks’ located throughout the City.

Residents can lodge requests, complaints and comments, obtain information and even pay accounts without having to directly contact Council. In addition, they will be able to track the progress of their inquiry and what stage it is at any time after it has been logged and categorised. The system is free and citizens can still contact Council by the traditional means, such as personally, telephone or by post.

Confidentiality and privacy is protected. Information going into the system cannot be accessed by unauthorised people or agencies, and electronic signatures ensure people can not be impersonated on Info-Lynx.
