Public Sector Games

In April 1998, Melbourne is to host another major event. The City will host the inaugural Australasian Public Sector Games. The Games will bring together athletic, and not so athletic public sector workers from all over Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Anyone working in a public capacity including all spheres of government, statutory authorities and educational institutions is welcome to participate.

Promising five days of competition, festivities and camaraderie, this event aims to promote friendly, healthy fun based participation in a competition, catering for all ages and abilities from recreational to elite level.

Public sector employees can enter as a team or compete as individuals representing their organisations.

Whatever the form of participation, the Games will provide scope for relaxed interaction with other public sector workers and organisations and should prove a great morale booster.

Participants will not only have the opportunity to compete in some of the world’s best sporting venues, including the National Tennis Centre and the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, the central location of events will provide the opportunity to visit the Victorian Arts Centre, world class restaurants and the many other attractions the City has to offer.

Sports to be included in the games have not been finalised but those under consideration range from sailing and tennis through to hockey, basketball and even snooker. Interested participants are welcome to make suggestions as to sports to be included.

Organisers hope people will begin to train and organise for the event now so as to be at a peak in April next year.
