Council updates aging systems

Glen Eira City Council has recently selected a suite of enterprise applications from Computron Software. These include financials, workflow and COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk), as well as payroll software from Peterborough and Stowe’s Pathway Local Government property management product.

Following a directive from the Office of Local Government in Victoria, Glen Eira needed a financial system that enabled reporting on both internal and external contracts, in terms of monitoring performance against set standards.

According to Keiran Cromie, Glen Eira’s Corporate Information Manager, Councils in Victoria must have better access to information, especially reporting on contract performance to remain competitive.

“Before selecting Computron, Council shortlisted two other vendors which provided the required functionality,” Keiran said. “However, on closer inspection Computron was the stronger contender – offering COOL (Computer Output Online,) imaging, workflow, cost of licences, choice of database and fixed price contract.”

The Computron suite will speed reporting, increase flexibility, lessen the time taken to create orders and approve invoices, and decrease turn around times for payments and refunds.

Council will use COOL to transfer financial reports to disk, allowing Council officers to search for old reports and view online. Computron’s workflow will be applied to Glen Eira’s accounts payable in the first instance and is set to shorten the time taken to create orders and approve invoices.

“The approval process that is involved in the workflow module means that more thorough checking of authorisations will occur and this should please our creditors!” Keiran Cromie said.
