Library services to meet increased demand

With one of the highest rates of library usage in Queensland, Toowoomba City Council has allocated increased funding to this service to meet residents’ demands.

“Membership of the Toowoomba City Library has increased in recent years as more residents take advantage of the free services the library offers,” said Community and Environmental Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Pauline Alroe. “This year we will spend $200,000 establishing a CBD branch with Internet services and local history resources.”

Council is also providing funding for a meeting room facility and improvements to its military and theological collections.

“We are proud of the high library usage in this City and aim to improve services to keep up with demand,” Councillor Alroe said.

Over 65 percent of the Toowoomba population are registered members of the library service and more than 1.2 million items are borrowed annually.
