Customer service rewarded

The City of Charles Sturt, formed with the amalgamation of Adelaide’s Cities of Woodville Hindmarsh and Henley and Grange, is committed to best practice.

“We have taken a holistic approach to best practice and continuous improvement and staff have developed extensive programs for the delivery of our vision,” said Susan Law, Chief Executive Officer. One of these programs, the Customer Diamond Program recently won the prestigious Australian Customer Service Award for South Australia.

“This Program ensures every staff member, from the ‘front line’ through to senior management, is committed to superior customer service,” Susan Law said. “To us, Customer Diamond is not an event, but a journey which sees us continually improving and striving for excellence. Without a commitment from every level, customer service falls down.”

A core part of the Program is Council’s Neighbourhood Plans. Including meetings with residents, surveys and feedback, this ensures every resident has the chance to have a say in the future directions of the City.

“To win this prestigious award against a field of high achievers in private enterprise demonstrates that Local Government and in particular Charles Sturt Council can take on the best and win!” Susan Law said.

Charles Sturt represented South Australia at the national awards held recently in Melbourne. Other Council finalists at the National Awards include Banyule, Brisbane, Redland, Melbourne and Wollongong.

Congratulations to Redland Shire which took out a National Award in the Category of Division/Department. Brisbane and Melbourne were Highly Commended in the Large Business Category. Wollongong City Council not only won the Large Business Category but also the overall national award, the Qantas Special Award for Outstanding Customer Service.

All three finalists in the Large Business category were Councils, a great endorsement that Local Government not only matches the private sector but can better it in customer service delivery.
