State of the art Council Chambers

The new Administration Centre has met both the current and future needs of Council staff and the community. At the same time, it has enabled the introduction of a number of audio visual devices to assist Councillors, the media and the public during Council meetings.

A separate press gallery partitioned by soundproof glass enables media representatives to talk or make phone calls during Council meetings. Similarly, if the meeting needs to move to in camera audio coverage is switched off to the press gallery.

All Councillors have a microphone to improve acoustics in the Chamber. A large screen, positioned so all in the Chamber can view it, is geared to show videos, broadcast direct from television, display agenda items or for computer power point presentations.

The first Ordinary Council Meeting in the new Chambers took place on 14 September in the presence of the Governor of Queensland, Major General Peter Arnison AO.

A $4 million refurbishment of the old Council building and Chambers will see this building converted to a Library. Plans include a drive through collection and drop off service.
