$23 million Town Centre project

A planned ring road around the Castle Hill Town Centre has created an opportunity for Council to redevelop this area into an attractive new community space.

The design plans include a parkland and a town square resulting from re-routing the main road that currently runs through the Town Centre.

The project will also include a new Central Library and community facilities, together with mainstreet redevelopment and other Town Centre enhancements.

Mayor Geoff Brooke-Cowden said Council is incredibly fortunate to have land available to create open space right in the middle of this busy commercial area.

“It will be the most beautiful community space anywhere wholly designed for the community,” he said.

Funding for the $23 million project is proposed to come from Council reserves, asset sales and potentially Section 94 contributions.

Every attempt will be made to avoid borrowing for these major works.

Apart from the planning and design of the ring road, Council has also made some strategic purchases and is having negotiations with developers to facilitate the project.

Extensive consultation with the community and key stakeholders on each of the components has, and is, taking place to ensure ownership and acceptance of the final outcome.
