Heartland E-Commerce

A seminar to be held on 9 March at Dubbo in western NSW will inform Council’s suppliers and other interested parties about the value of using electronic information systems for their commercial transactions.

Partnerships with local business are becoming a vital component of Local Government activities.

Helping Council’s relationships with local businesses run more smoothly is the aim of the Central Economic Zone’s Heartland Electronic Commerce Project.

The Central Economic Zone is an economic development initiative involving 30 Councils west of the Blue Mountains in NSW

The Heartland Project aims to increase the flow of information through electronic commerce conducted on the Heartland regional website.

This will fast track business transactions and provide more direct and efficient relationships between Councils and their suppliers.

Manager Financial Accounting Services at Dubbo, Wayne Sonneman, said if local suppliers to Council can be encouraged to conduct their business electronically this will assist Council operations.

“We are keen to encourage Dubbo Council suppliers to consider this form of transaction because essentially it will be more efficient for Council and will streamline the administration of accounts,” he said.

“In addition, local businesses will save time and money in travel, and open up new markets.

“The seminar will be a good opportunity to promote the Heartland E-Commerce Service to the community.

“If we get a number of local businesses together rather than talking to them individually, it will provide a ready way for them to see the advantages to be gained. In addition, they will be able to network with other businesses at the seminar.”

As well as Dubbo City Council and its suppliers, other interested Councils and local businesses are expected to take up this opportunity to learn more about the advantages of E-Commerce.
