Sharing facilities and expertise at Maroochy

Maroochy Shire Council’s Information and Records Management service has been offered to external organisations. These include neighbouring Federal, State and Local Government organisations, as well as semi government and private sector organisations.

“We have the investment in an excellent purpose built facility, information technology and well trained staff so we have decided to extend the benefits of this investment to other organisations,” said Mayor Alison Grosse.

“Many government and corporate organisations would like to have the information and records management expertise, but are unable to justify the investment, or have simply outgrown their facilities.

“We believe that, by selling over capacity, we are able to cover our costs and invest that money in other ways that will benefit our community as a whole.”

The facility provides a controlled environment 24 hours, 365 days of the year.

It is designed to maintain a constant temperature of about 20 degrees centigrade and 50 percent relative humidity.

It has an electronic security system and a security vault for the storage of highly confidential data and computer backup tapes.

Those already using the facility include the University of the Sunshine Coast, an education organisation and a local Council.
