As a means of welcoming both domestic and overseas visitors, Darwin City Council is using both conventional and multi media technology. The publication, ‘Darwin: A Complete Perspective’, provides an insight into the city and its residents.
Council has used a number of formats to ensure this information is available widely. These included a coffee table book, availability on the Web and a multimedia CD ROM business card format. The business card can be used on any computer regardless of the operating system in use.
Darwin City Council created a small team in the Technical Services Department to collate the information, write and format the text. The Public Relations Section then edited the document and wrote the specifications for the various formats.
Council engaged a private IT firm to fulfil the specifications of the multi media brief. Council staff worked closely with the contractor to ensure that the final product was completed quickly and cost effectively.
Interaction with the firm during the development phase also enabled some fine tuning and consideration of technical suggestions.
