Holly holds the future in her hands

‘Holly’, the virtual schoolgirl, is leading the way for the City of Gosnells, Western Australia, as it promotes the revitalisation of the city centre.

The combination of being located on the major southern route, the Albany Highway, and the growth of nearby centres contributed to a decline in local business activity. The City of Gosnells wants to bring back dignity to the town and restore the promise of its community.

“Council did not want the bulk standard CD”, said Andrew Fox, Communications Coordinator. “We wanted a really high tech presentation. The aim was to produce something that stood out. The good quality animation, with the school girl ‘Holly’, helps provide just that.”

The promotional CD ROM was launched to an audience of political and business leaders in December 2000. The availability of the electronic product has been promoted to residents so that knowledge about the renewal project is disseminated as widely as possible.

“The overview of the whole scheme on the CD ROM makes it a visible thing for the whole community”, he said.

The chief objective of the product is to encourage private sector investment in the town centre and attract government support.

“It has been successful with both major parties making commitments to support the project,” said Andrew Fox. “The City of Gosnells is the first Council in WA to use a CD ROM in this way, as far as I know.”
