IT integration powerful tool at Monash

Key City of Monash staff will soon be utilising manager desk tops providing direct access to organisational information required for daily tasks, such as report collation and delegated decision making.

Director Human Resources and Administration, Leigh Harder, said the self service initiative was an expansion of the fully integrated Aurion HR/Payroll system installed in January 1997.

He said that Aurion would also phase in transparent personnel information, allowing employees to view their own training records, pay rates, leave owning and associated information.

“The decision is part of the City’s efforts to provide best value to all stakeholders from our staff through to the community at large,” Leigh Harder said. “We’re also introducing a financial modelling system to equip managers with more effective management tools.

He said Council is very pleased with the savings in time, money and increased productivity since installing the fully integrated system.

“Initially we were attracted to Aurion because it allowed us to effectively merge City of Waverley and Oakleigh records leading up to Council amalgamation,” he said. “It gave us the power of integration which is vital in an organisation that manages hundreds of employee entitlements.”

Leigh Harder said the choice of Aurion had resulted in a streamlined data base of personnel records, Council training programs and evaluation of these programs, staff training histories, management reports, payroll, statistical and budgetary reporting.

“Simplicity and flexibility are vital in an organisation where 836 staff work many varied entitlements, with several Federal Awards and numerous unions,” he said.

“Aurion software achieves a direct flow of information, with HR/Payroll running off the same platform as finance management.

“In doing this we’re able to save time and money through the efficiencies of an integrated system.Aurion developers provided regular enhancements to meet ever changing needs.

“It is currently developing a state of the art rostering and award interpretation program for our Aged Care Facilities.

“We’re also looking forward to Aurion providing tailor made solutions capable of responding to future issues, such as Internet access for employees and the development of Internet interfaces with external customers including superannuation providers.

“Lying in Melbourne’s fastest growing population corridor, in a region promoted as a ‘high tech’ centre for industry, there is an expectation our management systems perform.Aurion is helping us meet best value strategies and ensure the viability of our City.”
