Maroochy Shire Council will continue its investigations into the joint venture Brisbane Road Carpark proposal in a bid to help find a solution to carparking problems in busy Mooloolaba.
Public interest in the project was sparked last September when Council opened a site office to showcase three design options for the development. More than 650 people visited the display and over 200 public submissions were received.
Significantly, more than 70 percent of respondents favoured the opportunity for a joint venture arrangement. The results indicated a strong community preference for Design Option A – the option currently being further investigated by Council.
The outcomes of this public consultation process together with comprehensive reports on the financial and urban design considerations for the project were valuable factors in Council’s decision.
This option includes 543 public car parking spaces with the future potential for additional car parks; a bus port; Police Beat shopfront; and a pedestrian bridge connection to Mooloolaba Esplanade.
There are also opportunities for additional community facilities such as a library, a public plaza and civic centre. The commercial element incorporates retail and accommodation components.
The Council owned public carpark tower will be a stand alone three above ground levels and two basement levels facility. This will provide 24 hour, open to the public carparking.
Maroochy Council is currently working with the preferred developer with a final decision expected before June.
