Sports and cultural programs for everyone!

Brisbane City Council has developed a range of programs to encourage the community to become involved in sport, recreation and cultural activities.

GOLD! (Growing Old and Living Dangerously) is a popular program offering challenging and innovative activities for older people, at a free or low cost. Available through Council outlets, the programs include Adventure Bound, Healthy and Active Lifestyles, Green and Gold and Celebrating Local Culture.

Chill Out provides young people aged between 12 and 16 years of age with the opportunity to get together and enjoy fun activities including camel rides, skateboarding, indoor rock climbing, cooking, natural therapies and craft.

The Walking for Pleasure program offers a unique opportunity for Brisbane residents to explore their city on foot. A qualified volunteer guides participants through Brisbane’s natural wilderness areas, local suburbs and heritage sites during school holidays.

RAW (Real Action Women) is an exciting adventurous recreational activity program for women aged 16 years and over. Participants learn new skills, experience outdoor adventures, extend horizons, socialise, enjoy fun relaxation and a feeling of self worth and accomplishment. Women are encouraged to continue adventurous participation on their own after they have completed the activity.

The Black Diamonds program encourages young Indigenous residents to become involved in sport, recreational and cultural activities. Awards nights, recognising achievements in these areas, are very popular. A mentoring program brings aspiring young Indigenous people together with successful Indigenous sports men and women.

All the above programs are regularly reviewed to ensure they are targeting the right people and meeting their needs.
