Integrated Community Services Suite with mobile data access *

Responding to a market need for fully integrated Local Government Authority (LGA) systems, in 2000 Xpedite released its Community Services Suite (CSS) of applications. Developed in collaboration with Whittlesea City Council, the application modules cover Aged & Disability Care, Food Services, Community Services Directory, Maternal & Child Health, Preschool Enrolment, Immunisation, Family Day Care, Long Day Care, Resource and Leisure Facility Booking, and Youth Services.

“Being involved with Xpedite throughout the development stage meant that user requirements were built into all areas,” said Neill Hocking, Whittlesea’s Director Organisation Development.“Xpedite has also responded well to any suggested improvements once the modules were in use.

“CSS has provided us with systems we didn’t have before, and most importantly, the suite is fully integrated with our other systems already in use.”

Since its introduction at Whittlesea, the innovative system is now in use or is currently being implemented in eight Victorian Council’s. Xpedite has also signed Gosford Council, the first New South Wales customer for CSS, demonstrating the products relevance to Councils across the country.

To further enhance the operation of the Aged Care module of CSS, Xpedite recently demonstrated a version which takes advantage of wireless enabled handheld PC’s (PDA’s) such as the Compaq iPaq, Hewlett-Packard Jornada, or Palm Pilot.

Available as an option, the Mobile version of CSS Aged Care system enables field based Assessment Officers to instantly access and update current client information back at Council. This approach eliminates the work duplication and potential for error inherent within alternatives that do not offer data synchronisation.

It provides comprehensive security, ensuring no sensitive personal data is ever retained on the PDA, or open to unauthorised access on the LGA’s database. As a bonus, this is all delivered with vastly simplified operation for non technical users.

The combination of a fully integrated suite of Community Services applications that can be integrated with an LGA’s property, financial, human resources and other applications, has delivered considerable savings in time and resources over traditional methods.

Xpedite is confident that this mobile computing technology will provide Councils with even more cost effective and secure methods of delivering quality services to clients.
