Maroochy sports and recreation groups come up trumps!

Following two years of planning, lobbying and submission writing, Maroochy Shire Council has recently received a State Grant of $500,000 to assist in the development of a $1.25 million Regional Soccer Facility.

The facility, located on a seven hectare site, will be home to the Sunshine Coast Soccer Federation and the Maroochydore Soccer Club. A centralised and elevated clubhouse will overlook five senior soccer fields and junior fields. A separate building will house the Regional Soccer Federation, as well as professional staff who will conduct training and development.

Maroochy Shire Mayor, Councillor Alison Grosse, said that an additional $250,000 worth of infrastructure has been pumped into the region this year, following contributions from Local Government, State Government and the all important community clubs.

“Maroochy Shire sport and recreation groups are again the big winners,” she said.

Palmwoods and Chancellor Park communities will receive major skate parks, Palmwoods cricket club a new wicket turf, Coolum Netball courts an upgrade and the Maroochydore Cricket Club new shading. In addition, the Suncoast/Hinterland Softball Club will receive new back nets to facilitate the upcoming State Masters Titles at Elizabeth Daniels Park.

“It’s amazing what successful grants can be secured when the local community sport and recreation groups, together with Council, combine financial, planning and lobbying forces,” Councillor Alison Grosse said.
