Deakin University – the right course for your career *

With the rapidly changing global environment and ever increasing pressure to rationalise the activities of government, there has never been a better time to consider postgraduate study in public policy. Deakin University’s Public Policy and Governance program has been specifically designed for those involved in policy making and analysis in the public sector, in policy research, consultancy and advocacy, as well as in the community or third sector.

The interdisciplinary program covers the key issues, concepts and knowledge. Units of study include analysis of recent trends in privatisation, contracting out, new public management, and public governance and accountability.

They are under constant review so as to be relevant to the changing requirements and pressures of public policy and governance.

The Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Master of Public Policy and Governance are fully articulated courses that allow flexibility through varying entry and exit points. They provide advanced standing for those with prior learning in a cognate area and relevant work experience.

The teaching staff are internationally renowned leaders in their field, with excellent research and publication records. The Program Director, Associate Professor Linda Hancock, is a former Commissioner on the Law Reform Commission of Victoria and presiding member on the Social Security Appeals Tribunal. She has recently returned to Australia from a stint at the OECD in Paris, and is currently President of the European Studies Association of Australia and Chair of the State Government’s Gambling Research Panel.

Deakin University receives acclaim from government departments and the many private organisations that encourage their staff to upgrade their professional skills. The off campus, part time courses allow students to combine study with work, travel and family commitments.
